Description: Old survey records and other lines of evidence point to widespread oak woodlands in the historic Willamette Valley and adjacent foothills. In this "Hike with a Forester", we'll explore some of today's "valley-margin forests" with their contemporary cover of Douglas-fir and bigleaf maple, and also look at some efforts to restore open oak woodland and their associated understory vegetation and wildlife. We will have a good probability of seeing the energetic and amusing acorn woodpecker, and other wildlife besides!
