Outreach and Education
Oregon State University is a land grant institution committed to teaching, research, and outreach and engagement, with a vision to promote economic, social, cultural and environmental progress for the people of Oregon, the nation and the world. The OSU Research Forests are excited to offer engagement opportunities to help meet that mission. From Get Outdoors Day to interpretive signs, self-guided tours to field trips, Peavy Arboretum and McDonald Forest offer many opportunities for individuals, families and community groups to learn about the natural world through informal and guided settings.
2026 Summer Programming: Forest Fridays
Join the OSU Research Forest for Forest Fridays—a series of free, hands-on activities that inspire exploration, discovery, and creativity in the forest. Attend one session or join us for all three!
Friday, August 14 - Natural Journaling
9:30–11:00 a.m.
Discover the art of observing and recording nature through creative journaling.
Friday, August 28 - Forestry Tools & Tree Science
9:30–11:00 a.m.
Learn about the tools foresters use and explore the fascinating science behind trees.
Friday, September 4 - Forest Printmaking
9:30–11:00 a.m.
Create unique nature-inspired prints using materials and textures found in the forest.
These programs are designed for ages 6 and up, but participants of all ages are welcome.
